The Strategic Column Packing Specialist is responsible for delivering Cytiva's expert-led column packing service across the full scale spectrum — from lab and pilot-scale screening columns through to process-scale GMP columns — ensuring reproducible, specification-compliant packed beds throughout the customer's development-to-manufacturing journey.
By supporting customers at the resin screening and process development stage as well as at commercial manufacturing, this role builds early technical influence and secures resin and column design-in. It delivers expert-assured reproducibility, increased process uptime and consistent confidence in packed bed performance for customers running GMP production.
This position reports to the BioProcess Hardware Modality Leader, Korea and is part of the Bioprocessing organization located in Korea, working remotely to cover customers across Korea.
What you will do:
- Execute column packing and unpacking across all scales:
- Lab / development scale — Tricorn, HiScale, XK and comparable columns supporting customer resin screening, method development and process development activities.
- Pilot scale — AxiChrom 50–200 mm, BPG, Fineline and equivalent columns.
- Process scale — AxiChrom and Chromaflow columns at customer GMP sites.
- Qualify packed beds against agreed acceptance criteria (HETP, asymmetry), document results, and issue packing reports that customers can use as part of their manufacturing records.
- Support customer resin screening and process development activities by packing small-scale columns to consistent, documented specifications — enabling reliable scale-down model performance and generating packing data that supports subsequent scale-up.
- Provide focused support for strategic customers by prioritizing high-impact accounts, aligning technical service activities with commercial priorities, and ensuring responsive, expert-led support for critical development, scale-up and manufacturing needs.
- Support customer issues involving the interaction between resin and columns, including troubleshooting performance deviations, packed-bed behavior, resin handling, column hardware conditions and scale-related issues in collaboration with modality, application and global technical teams.
- Ensure scale-up consistency by translating packing parameters established at lab and pilot scale (compression factor, packing flow velocity, bed height) into validated process-scale packing methods, and by advising customers on the scale-up implications of resin and column selection.
- Train and certify customer operators across scales — covering lab-scale packing technique for process development groups, and process-scale packing, unpacking, CIP and routine handling for manufacturing operators — at customer sites and demo centers.
- Act as technical escalation point for packing-related issues, engaging global product, R&D, quality and service teams to investigate and close complex cases such as bed instability, channeling, repeat repacking and resin damage.
Who you are:
- Bachelor's degree or above in Biotechnology, Biochemical / Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
- Multiple years of hands-on experience in bioprocess downstream operations, with direct experience packing chromatography columns at both laboratory / pilot scale and process scale.
- Practical understanding of chromatography resin properties, slurry preparation, compression / packing factors, and packed-bed evaluation methods (HETP, asymmetry, transition analysis), and how these translate across scales.
- Demonstrated capability in customer-facing technical support, hands-on service delivery or field service within a bioprocessing or equivalent GMP-regulated environment.
- Working knowledge of ÄKTA pure / pilot / process systems and UNICORN control software, sufficient to execute packing and evaluation runs independently on-site.
- Fluent level of English and Korean in written and verbal communication, able to interface with both Korean customers and Cytiva's global product and service teams.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Language/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role
- Fluent level of English & Korean in written and verbal communications 한국어 및 영어로의 서면 및 구두 의사소통능력이 높으신 분
- Ability to travel abroad upon business needs 해외여행에 결격사유가 없으신 분
- Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record within territory or locations 운전을 하여 담당하는 국내 고객사에 방문할 수 있는 분
- If foreign national, legal work permit is required to pursue employment contract by Korean immigration law 대한민국에서의 근무가 가능한 비자가 있는 분
- Ability to lift, move or carry equipment up to 20kg, any other physical requirements
