Runaway Bay Tavern is looking for an experienced, hands-on Head Chef to lead our kitchen team at our newly renovated venue on the Gold Coast.

This is a great opportunity for a strong leader who enjoys a busy pub environment, takes pride in their food and knows how to balance great service with strong kitchen performance.

About the role

You’ll take ownership of day-to-day kitchen operations, leading by example and responding quickly to customer demand and weekly trading needs. You’ll need to be commercially minded, organised and ready to get hands-on when things get busy.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading, training and developing the kitchen team
• Being hands-on during service and setting the standard for the team
• Managing labour costs and rostering
• Responding quickly to customer demand and weekly trading needs
• Managing food costs, ordering, stock control and wastage
• Maintaining food quality, presentation and consistency
• Ensuring food safety, hygiene and kitchen standards are maintained
• Creating a positive team culture built on accountability, teamwork and a can-do attitude

What we’re looking for

• 4+ years’ experience as a Head Chef in a busy kitchen
• Strong leadership skills and a hands-on approach
• Experience managing labour and food costs
• A can-do attitude and the ability to think on your feet
• Someone reliable who leads by example and brings out the best in their team
