The Trade Finance Associate is responsible for supporting trade finance operations, including the issuance and administration of Standby and Import Letters of Credit, Documentary Collections, and Letter of Credit Participations. This role ensures transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with international trade finance rules, banking regulations, and internal policies. Reporting to the Trade Finance Manager, this position plays a key role in supporting trade finance products and services while ensuring operational accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance.Job Responsibilities:
- Issue, amend, renew, and maintain Standby Letters of Credit and Import Letters of Credit.
- Process Import and Export Documentary Collections.
- Administer LC Participations (Bought and Sold), including settlements and reporting.
- Review trade finance documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to applicable regulations, sanctions requirements, and bank policies.
- Respond to customer and internal partner inquiries regarding trade finance transactions.
- Support audits, examinations, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Research and resolve operational issues and transaction exceptions in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely completion of assigned responsibilities in accordance with established procedures and service standards.
- Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions.
- Analyzes and resolves problems.
ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
- Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance training. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications:
- Education level required: High School / High School Equivalency (GED, HiSET, TASC) / Foreign Equivalent.
- Minimum experience required: 2+ Years of experience in Trade Finance and/or International Banking.
- Experience with: Standby Letter of Credit issuance and amendments; Import Letter of Credit issuance and amendments; Import and Export Documentary Collections; LC Participations (Bought and Sold).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ACBS and/or AFS Vision.
- CDCS certification or related Trade Finance credentials preferred.
Job Competencies:
- Working knowledge of UCP 600.
- Working knowledge of ISP98.
- Working knowledge of URC 522 (Documentary Collection Rules).
- Strong knowledge of international trade finance and banking practices.
- Ability to review and interpret trade finance documentation and ensure accurate transaction processing.
- Experience using ACBS, AFS Vision, or similar banking platforms.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-first mindset. Demonstrates the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders through collaboration, communication, and service excellence.
