Telecom Lead Engineer (m/f/d)
Your work ensures that every signal, every command, and every data exchange across these systems is reliable, secure, and built to last.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone (m/f/d) who combines deep technical expertise in local and wide-area networks with the ability to coordinate across suppliers, customers, and internal teams to bring complex designs to life. Job Description
What You'll Do
- Lead the integration of network components within large-scale HVDC/AC substation turnkey projects, coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers from design through delivery.
- Own in-house network design and drive the supplier delivery.
- Conduct comprehensive design reviews and interface alignment sessions, applying your knowledge to challenge supplier proposals and customer requirements, and driving resolution through structured technical queries.
- Evaluate and recommend solutions across redundancy protocols, routing configurations, and high-availability architectures to meet project-specific performance and reliability requirements.
- Share your expertise with less experienced colleagues, helping to build team capability and align technical approaches across the project.
Who We're Looking For
You are a telecom or network engineer (m/f/d) with proven hands-on experience in industrial or critical infrastructure environments. You bring a level of technical depth that allows you to both build and challenge — designing robust solutions while questioning assumptions that could compromise performance or safety.
Required
- A formal degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field is a plus, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
- Cisco Platforms: experience with Cisco ASR 903 / IE9X series; ability to manage system resources, deeply understand the implementation aspects, configuration, including the automated tools available.
- MPLS & Core Routing: Advanced configuration of MPLS L3VPNs, LDP and RSVP-TE.
- DWDM/Optical: Practical understanding of active and passive components for multiplexing and amplification as well as FO cabling, splicing and patching.
- Layer 2/3 Segmentation: Expert-level configuration of VLANs, sub-interfaces and complex VRF structures for multi-tenant environments.
- Redundancy Protocols: Proven track record in configuring and testing High Availability features like BFD, HSRP/VRRP, and MPLS Fast Reroute to ensure sub-second convergence.
- Routing Protocols: Deep-dive proficiency in BGP (MP-BGP, route maps, prefix-lists, community strings) and IGPs (OSPF or IS-IS) in a multi-area service provider environment.
Preferred
- Experience using automation and scripting tools — Python, AI-assisted tooling, or equivalent — to streamline everyday network engineering tasks.
- Hands-on experience with network monitoring and packet capture tools such as Wireshark for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
- Knowledge of Industrial Networks, related to substation Automation: PRP/RSTP/NTP/PTP protocols, IEC 104/61850-series standards for Substation Automation.
- Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCDE, CCIE) are valued, though demonstrable practical experience carries equal weight.
