Staff Analytics Engineer
PermitFlow is redefining how America builds. We’re an applied AI company serving the nation’s builders, tackling one of the largest information challenges in the economy: understanding what can be built, where, and how. Our AI agent workforce helps the fastest-growing construction companies navigate everything from permitting and licensing to inspections and project closeouts – accelerating housing, clean-energy, and infrastructure development across the country.
Despite being a $1.6T industry, construction still suffers from massive delays, wasted capital, and lost opportunity. PermitFlow has already delivered unprecedented speed, accuracy, and visibility to over $20B in development, helping contractors reduce compliance time, de-risk projects, and scale with confidence.
As the U.S. enters a new capex supercycle across data centers, factories, housing, and renewables, joining PermitFlow means building the AI infrastructure at the core of every construction project driving the next wave of reindustrialization.
We’ve raised over $90M, most recently completing our Series B, from top-tier investors including Accel, Kleiner Perkins, Initialized, Y Combinator, Felicis, and Altos Ventures, with backing from leaders at OpenAI, Google, Procore, ServiceTitan, Zillow, PlanGrid, and Uber.
Our HQ is in New York City with a hybrid schedule (3 in-office days per week). We prefer NYC-based candidates or those open to relocation.
Role OverviewWe’re looking for a Staff Analytics Engineer to help shape how PermitFlow uses data to make better decisions, improve operations, and accelerate growth. This is a full-stack data role that combines deep analytics engineering with hands-on data analysis. You’ll own problems end-to-end, from building reliable dbt models to finding insights that directly influence business strategy.
This is a high-impact, hands-on individual contributor role combining analytics engineering, strategic analysis, and technical leadership. You’ll work closely with teams across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Customer Success to tackle complex business questions, build scalable data solutions, and help build a culture of data-driven decision-making. Much of your time will go to dbt and data modeling, and you’ll also do a lot of hands-on data analysis with cross-functional partners.
We’re building an AI-native data function. As we scale, you’ll play a key role in exploring how AI and emerging technologies can change the way we work with data. We’re looking for someone excited to challenge traditional approaches, take ownership, and shape how data powers a rapidly scaling business.
What You'll DoOwn our data foundation: Design, build, and scale our data warehouse, dbt models, pipelines, and core metrics. dbt will be a core part of your day-to-day work.
Own analytics end-to-end: Partner with cross-functional teams to find high-impact opportunities, investigate complex business questions, and turn raw data into insights, predictive models, and recommendations that drive real outcomes.
Build AI-powered analytics: Leverage LLMs to automate routine analysis, enable self-service insights, and improve how teams interact with data.
Set technical direction and champion data quality: Establish best practices for data modeling, testing, documentation, and governance as our infrastructure scales.
Drive strategic decision-making: Embed with leaders in Customer Success, Operations, and other teams to define KPIs, evaluate business performance, and find ways to improve efficiency, growth, and customer outcomes.
Make data accessible and actionable: Build dashboards, reporting, and self-service tools that help teams explore data on their own and make informed decisions.
Shape our data function: Help define our long-term data strategy, tooling, and technical standards as PermitFlow grows.
Extensive experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or BI, with a track record of owning complex, high-impact initiatives.
Expert SQL skills and deep, hands-on experience with dbt, data modeling, and modern cloud data warehouses.
Strong Python skills and experience building scalable data pipelines and analytics infrastructure.
Practical experience using LLMs or AI-powered tools to improve analytics workflows and data accessibility.
A full-stack data mindset: You combine strong engineering fundamentals with real analytical depth, and you’re comfortable working across both.
Strong analytical thinking and business intuition: You thrive in ambiguity, ask thoughtful questions, and know how to turn complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional projects independently and influence technical and business decisions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills: You can partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders, explain insights clearly, and influence decisions across the business.
An ownership mentality: You’re proactive and resourceful, and motivated by solving meaningful problems rather than just delivering reports or maintaining infrastructure.
