About the Role
Backcountry's accounting team has gone through significant turnover and is rebuilding. This role owns core month-end close work — journal entries, accruals, bank and payment channel reconciliations, and the revenue and cash cycle across our multi-channel platforms.
As Staff Accountant, you will execute close tasks accurately and on time, build well-documented reconciliations, develop a working command of NetSuite and the consolidation process, and find at least one manual task to streamline with AI or automation within your first year.
This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as part of the monthly close checklist
- Reconcile bank accounts, commercial card statements, and multi-channel customer payment platforms
- Own the revenue and cash cycle across payment channels, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately
- Pull and analyze NetSuite data for reporting and variance analysis
- Gather supporting documentation from business owners, Accounts Payable, and cross-functional teams
- Support acquisition integration, internal controls, and other team projects as they arise
- Identify and streamline manual processes using AI tools or automation
- Maintain clean, well-documented workpapers and reconciliations that can be reviewed and audited
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 0 to 3 years of public or corporate accounting experience (internships count)
- Solid US GAAP fundamentals, including accruals and account reconciliations
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets
- Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills
- Accuracy under tight deadlines with the ability to juggle multiple priorities during month-end close
- Willingness to learn and curiosity about incorporating AI into accounting workflows
- Able to work in-office in Cottonwood Heights, Utah on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle NetSuite or another ERP system
- Public accounting background (audit or tax)
- Multi-entity or consolidated accounting experience
- Exposure to Looker or other BI tools
- Retail or e-commerce industry experience
