Sr Fleet Engineer - YAW Mechanical Engineering

On-site Barcelona, Spain full time
Job Description Summary The Senior Fleet Performance Engineer – YAW Mechanical serves as the technical authority for fleet performance, responsible for resolving the most complex, mission-critical turbine performance issues. You will lead high-level technical investigations, define troubleshooting methodologies, and influence the long-term reliability of the turbine fleet. This role operates at the intersection of field operations, system design, and services, acting as the primary subject matter expert for fleet-wide mechanical performance. Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • High-Complexity Issue Resolution: Take ownership of the most challenging technical escalations. Provide definitive troubleshooting strategies and engineering solutions that balance immediate resolution with long-term fleet health.
  • Systemic Architectural Influence: Evaluate turbine YAW subsystem interactions from a holistic perspective. Provide technical guidance on design modifications or operational changes that impact fleet-wide performance and reliability.
  • Advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Lead complex and detailed T&Ts projects (Trend&ImprovemenT) 8Ds for root cause analysis (RCAs) for systemic fleet issues. Develop and validate hypotheses using data, modeling, and physical evidence; present findings and mitigation strategies to senior stakeholders and customers.
  • Technical Strategy & Methodology: Define and refine the technical standards for troubleshooting and case resolution. Author technical bulletins, playbooks, and best-practice guides to elevate the technical capabilities of the broader engineering organization.
  • Strategic Fleet Oversight: Analyze fleet performance data to forecast reliability trends. Proactively identify emerging risks before they manifest as fleet-wide outages or performance degradation.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: Serve as the lead technical point of contact for Product Engineering and R&D teams, ensuring that field performance insights directly inform future turbine design and service offerings.
  • Mentorship: Act as a formal mentor for junior and mid-level engineers. Conduct technical peer reviews, foster a culture of rigorous problem-solving, and share specialized knowledge to build a high-performing technical team.

Required Qualifications

  • Deep expertise in turbine controls, hydraulic & yaw systems, yaw loads and mechanical fatigue analysis and how these factors impact long-term fleet operation.
  • Demonstrated mastery in conducting formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) 8Ds and applying reliability engineering principles.
  • Proven track record of influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders without direct management authority.
  • Ability to translate complex technical data into executive-level recommendations and customer-facing communications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience with wind turbine fleet performance, yaw and drive systems reliability, monitoring tools and big-data analytics.
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes as they relate to turbine life cycle.
  • Experience representing the company as a technical lead in customer-facing resolution meetings for high-impact fleet events.
  • Published internal/external technical papers or patents related to turbine reliability or mechanical performance.
  • Continuous improvement mind-set and teamwork spirit
