The opportunity
The global energy transition is accelerating, and HVDC technology plays a key role in enabling reliable and efficient transmission of electricity across continents, countries, and power systems.
At Hitachi Energy's HVDC business, we develop, manufacture, and deliver world-leading High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) solutions that help customers integrate renewable energy, strengthen power grids, and improve energy security worldwide.
HVDC Service is responsible for service committments and for lifetime extensions of existing HVDC installations around the globe. We are now looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead some of our largest and most strategically important upgrade projects.
In this role, you will take overall responsibility for the execution of complex international projects ranging from partial system upgrades to major modernization programs of existing HVDC stations. Project values typically range between 50 and 500 MUSD and involve multidisciplinary teams, advanced technology, and close customer collaboration.
This is a unique opportunity to lead critical infrastructure projects that contribute directly to the future of sustainable energy.
How you'll make an impact
- Lead the successful execution of large and complex HVDC upgrade projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and according to contractual, quality, and safety requirements.
- Establish, lead, and motivate multidisciplinary project teams across functions and geographies, creating a strong performance and collaboration culture.
- Take full ownership of project scope, schedule, financial performance, resource planning, and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders, acting as the primary point of contact and the voice of the customer within the organization.
- Drive contract negotiations, variation orders, claims management, and commercial discussions in close collaboration with Contract Management and Supply Chain Management.
- Ensure effective project governance by identifying opportunities and mitigating technical, commercial, and operational risks while promoting best practices in health, safety, and environmental performance.
Your background
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or another relevant technical discipline.
- Extensive experience leading large and complex HVDC, substation, energy transmission or engineering projects on EP or EPC basis.
- Proven track record of delivering projects with responsibility for budget, schedule, customer relationships, and overall project performance.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing multidisciplinary and international project teams.
- Solid commercial understanding with experience in contract and stakeholder management.
- Fluency in English, written and spoken, is a must. Experience from HVDC, power transmission, or other complex energy infrastructure projects is highly valued. PMP, IPMA, PRINCE2, or equivalent certification is considered a merit.
