Senior Network Architect
Join our global Network Connectivity team and help shape the secure, resilient and automated network foundation that connects Swiss Re worldwide. As a Senior Network Architect, you will define architecture standards and strategic roadmaps across DDI, network segmentation, Cisco enterprise platforms, security and observability, while guiding complex solutions from concept through implementation.
About the Role
The Senior Network Architect serves as a senior Subject Matter Expert (SME) and design authority for enterprise network services across on-premises and cloud-connected environments. The role combines architecture ownership with hands-on technical depth, with particular focus on DDI, segmentation, Cisco platforms and network observability. You will translate business and security requirements into scalable standards, reference architectures and implementation patterns, working closely with engineering, operations, cyber security and external IT service providers.
- Own and evolve the architecture and lifecycle of DDI services based on EfficientIP, including DNS, DHCP and IPAM, resilience and disaster recovery, integrations, security controls and automation.
- Define macro- and micro-segmentation concepts for enterprise networks, including security zones, VRFs, VLANs, access control, identity-based policy and integration with firewall and network access control platforms.
- Provide architecture leadership for Cisco platforms including Cisco ISE, Catalyst Center (DNAC), TACACS+, RADIUS, enterprise switching, routing and network access control technologies.
- Define network security and firewall integration principles, including management-plane security, administrative access, policy governance, logging and secure connectivity patterns.
- Shape network and service observability using SNMP, telemetry, syslog, flow data and application monitoring concepts to improve availability, troubleshooting and user experience.
- Lead architecture reviews, technology evaluations, Proofs of Concept (PoCs), standards development, product roadmaps and lifecycle or end-of-life decisions.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex design and integration issues and provide guidance to engineering and operations teams.
- Promote API-driven and Infrastructure-as-Code approaches to improve consistency, security and efficiency of network changes and operational processes.
- Maintain high-quality architecture documentation, reference designs, decision records, implementation standards and operational handover material.
About the Team
The Network Connectivity Team is the focal point for network activities across Swiss Re. We are responsible for the strategy, architecture, engineering and operational governance of global network services, including WAN and SD-WAN, internet connectivity, perimeter and firewall connectivity, data center networking, office LAN and Wi-Fi, network access control, DDI, load balancing, monitoring and network automation. We define and continuously evolve Swiss Re's network standards and work closely with internal technology teams and strategic service providers to deliver secure, resilient and scalable connectivity worldwide.
About You
You combine broad enterprise networking experience with deep technical expertise and the ability to turn complex requirements into pragmatic architecture. You are comfortable operating in a global, diverse and multicultural environment, taking end-to-end ownership, challenging existing designs constructively and sharing knowledge across engineering and operations teams. Strong collaboration, customer orientation, sound judgment and clear technical communication are essential for success in this role.
- Extensive experience in enterprise network architecture and engineering, with a strong understanding of end-to-end network design, integration and lifecycle management.
- Deep knowledge of macro- and micro-segmentation principles, including VRFs, VLANs, ACLs, security zones, identity- or policy-based access control and segmentation governance.
- Strong knowledge of network and application monitoring concepts, including SNMPv3, polling and traps, telemetry, syslog, flow data, health monitoring and service or application observability.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of DDI platforms, preferably EfficientIP, covering DNS, DHCP and IPAM architecture, high availability, disaster recovery, security and integration patterns.
- Strong understanding of Cisco ISE, Catalyst Center (DNAC), TACACS+, RADIUS, enterprise switching and routing, including network access control mechanisms such as 802.1X and MAB.
- Solid understanding of routing and connectivity technologies such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, SD-WAN and VPN or overlay networking.
- Good understanding of firewall management and network security principles, including policy lifecycle, rule design, NAT, high availability, logging and troubleshooting.
- Cisco certification is strongly preferred, for example CCNP Enterprise or DataCenter, CCIE or an equivalent level of demonstrated expertise.
- Network automation experience is a strong advantage, including Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Experience with private or public cloud networking and hybrid connectivity is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform detailed network and security analysis and develop practical optimization proposals.
- Ability to create clear architecture documentation, standards and technical presentations and to communicate effectively with engineers, security teams, management and external service providers.
- Passion for network architecture, continuous improvement and evaluating new technologies that can improve security, resilience, automation and operational efficiency.
