The Senior Manager, Lab Operations will provide leadership and oversight for Scholar Rock’s laboratory operations and support services. This role is responsible for maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient laboratory environments and for ensuring that equipment, facilities, systems, vendors, and operational resources effectively support research activities.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and service-oriented leader with biotechnology laboratory operations experience. This individual will partner across scientific and business functions, lead internal and external resources, and drive practical improvements that support current and evolving research needs.

Position Responsibilities

• Laboratory Operations: Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and services to maintain safe, organized, reliable, and efficient research environments.
• Equipment and Facilities Support: Coordinate the maintenance, repair, installation, relocation, and lifecycle management of laboratory equipment and supporting infrastructure.
• Team Leadership: Lead laboratory operations staff, establish priorities, and promote a collaborative, responsive, and service-oriented culture.
• Laboratory Services: Ensure effective management of supplies, inventory, receiving, shipping, storage, waste, gases, cryogens, and other routine laboratory support activities.
• Safety and Compliance: Partner with EH&S and other stakeholders to support laboratory safety programs, training, inspections, permits, documentation, and regulatory requirements.
• Vendor, Budget, and Systems Management: Manage service providers, contracts, purchasing, operating expenses, laboratory systems, asset records, work orders, preventive maintenance, and monitoring activities.
• Continuous Improvement and Partnership: Work cross-functionally to improve laboratory processes, communicate operational impacts, resolve issues, and support changing business and research needs.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biotechnology, engineering, or a related scientific or technical field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• 10+ years of relevant laboratory operations, facilities, engineering, equipment, or technical service experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences environments.
•  At least 7 years of experience supporting BL2 laboratory operations, including 3+ years of direct people-management or supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations, equipment programs, service providers, budgets, and cross-functional priorities.
• Working knowledge of laboratory safety, OSHA requirements, hazardous materials, shipping, waste disposal, and applicable regulations.
• Experience with CMMS platforms, preventive maintenance, work-order processes, asset records, and laboratory monitoring systems.
• Strong leadership, organizational, communication, project-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and participate in off-hours response for critical laboratory issues, as required.
• Ability to be on-call and respond promptly to laboratory alarms and critical operational issues, as needed.
• DOT Ground Transportation, Hazmat, General Laboratory Safety, and CPR/AED/First Aid training or certifications are preferred.
