Position Summary
The Senior Electrical Program Engineer (SEPE) provides senior-level electrical engineering expertise across FORTNA’s parcel customer's program, with an emphasis on conveyor and parcel-handling systems. This position supports projects primarily during the pre-award, estimating, planning, and handoff phases to help ensure electrical scope, design assumptions, schedules, risks, and costs are appropriately defined before execution begins.
Serving as a trusted technical liaison, the Senior Electrical Program Engineer works across parcel customer, Sales, Estimating, Scheduling, Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, Field Services, and project execution teams. The position reviews and advises on project-specific work while owning the electrical standards, standard designs, and engineering practices used across the electrical program.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct reports. The position leads through technical expertise, mentoring, collaboration, and influence rather than formal authority.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop an in-depth understanding of customer technical standards, electrical specifications, and operational requirements.
- Participate in pre-award technical reviews, scope reviews, bid reviews, and project handoff activities.
- Review proposed electrical solutions and identify design concerns, missing requirements, scope gaps, risks, clarifications, and necessary exceptions.
- Advise Estimating on electrical hardware, engineering hours, system requirements, and technical assumptions without owning the final estimate.
- Provide input to project schedules by evaluating engineering duration, resource requirements, technical dependencies, and execution risks.
- Support the development of risk registers and provide electrical engineering input during opportunity and project reviews.
- Serve as a senior technical interface between the customer and FORTNA’s electrical engineering organization.
- Translate customer decisions, revised standards, and technical requirements into clear direction for project execution teams.
- Own and maintain customer electrical standards, standard control panels, drawing packages, templates, and reusable engineering solutions.
- Review project designs, drawings, calculations, hardware selections, and technical documentation to confirm alignment with established standards.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design reviews to promote effective integration between electrical, controls, mechanical, software, estimating, and field teams.
- Capture and distribute lessons learned across active parcel projects to prevent recurring design and execution issues.
- Mentor and advise electrical engineers working on parcel customer projects without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Develop and deliver customer-specific technical training in partnership with the Training team.
- Identify opportunities to reduce engineering effort, improve repeatability, strengthen quality, and standardize project delivery.
- Support short-term project execution needs when critical technical issues or resource constraints require senior engineering involvement.
- Communicate technical risks and recommendations effectively to customers, engineers, project leaders, sales teams, and senior management.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical CAD software.
- Understanding of distributed controls architecture and industrial control-system integration.
- Ability to review electrical drawings, technical calculations, system designs, hardware selections, and customer specifications.
- Experience supporting technical scope development, estimating, project scheduling, design reviews, or pre-award engineering activities.
- Ability to identify technical and commercial risks before projects enter execution.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer-facing communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and determine where technical involvement will provide the greatest value.
- Strong initiative, learning agility, organization, and customer focus.
