The Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, Experiences, the Senior Director of Destination Management leads Viator's global destination management team. You will bring a deep understanding of the global operator community and use it to develop strategies that solve business problems and support our mutual goal with operators: delivering exceptional experiences to travelers.
This is an operational role. You will be expected to deliver significant business outcomes by leading and motivating a global team, with decisive leadership and a strong bias for action.
Job Location: Hybrid
This role is a hybrid position that requires 2 to 3 days per week in our London Office.
Key Responsibilities:
Operator Community and Destination Strategy
-
Hold a deep, current understanding of the operator community: its needs, economics, competitive options and pain points. Use it to shape how we win and retain supply.
-
Own the 3 year destination management strategy and translate it into clear regional charters and measurable KPIs, growing revenue and market share in leading destinations.
-
Develop strategies that solve business problems for both operators and Viator, in support of delivering exceptional traveler experiences.
-
Own financial rigor: use fresh business data and pacing to steer the business, and help your team understand the financial impact of its decisions and be accountable for it.
Team Leadership and Talent
-
Act as chief architect of the global destination management organization. Lead and mentor Regional Managers, and design an organization and operating model that fits the business as it evolves.
-
Set and hold the hiring bar, run rigorous and consistent performance management, and calibrate with peers across Supply.
-
Build and retain top talent, and maintain a leadership bench and succession plan for Regional Manager roles.
-
Set the standard for leadership: humble, open to feedback, and skilled at leading teams through change.
-
Be clear on what each person and region owns, and hold them accountable for it. Push decisions to the lowest appropriate level while stepping in personally on cross-regional or cross-functional problems no one else owns.
Data-Driven Decision Making
-
Set the standard for hypothesis quality and test design. Define what the team needs to learn, require evidence and experimentation over opinion, and prioritize what operators and travelers actually do over what they say.
Connectivity
-
Ensure industry-leading connectivity with the features and support operators need. Oversee the connectivity support team and partner with R&D to build enhanced connectivity features.
Innovation and AI
-
Drive innovation by bringing in outside ideas through industry conferences, councils and competitor insight, and share what works across functions.
-
Advocate for and implement AI and automation to transform productivity and quality, including rethinking roles and workflows. Scale proven wins across regions, build team AI skills, and use AI responsibly within our governance and data-privacy guidelines.
-
Monitor competitive dynamics, regulatory environments and industry trends affecting supply.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Align with Supply Sales, Marketing, R&D and Support, and act as an integrator on OKRs and problems that cut across functions, so operators and customers have a seamless end-to-end experience.
-
Partner as one team across Supply and Tripadvisor Experiences, and hold cross-functional partners accountable as well as being held accountable by them.
Skills & Experience
-
Global Leadership: 10+ years leading and scaling global teams in market management, account management or a combination, including leading managers of managers.
-
Operator and Marketplace Expertise: Extensive experience with two-sided marketplaces, a deep understanding of supply-side dynamics, technologies and operator communities, ideally in travel.
-
Strategic Thinking: A track record of setting multi-year strategy and turning it into goals, KPIs and results.
-
Operational Excellence: Data-driven operational leadership with a strong bias for action. Skilled at KPIs, pacing and scalable processes to improve global efficiency.
-
Quality Orientation: Experience defining and enforcing quality standards across a catalog or supplier base.
-
Tech Savvy and AI Proficiency: A proven history of using AI and technology to improve business outcomes and create transformational change.
-
Commercial Acumen: Strong commercial and financial acumen, with advanced negotiation and relationship management skills to build and sustain key operator partnerships.
-
Inspirational Leader: An authentic, humble leader who builds trust, develops talent and cultivates a winning culture.
