Position Summary

• Responsible for overseeing the day-to-operation of the Senior Health Insurance

Program (SHIP) site located at Southern Illinois Healthcare.

Experience and Skills

• Technical Experience: 2 years of experience with Medicare or related field

Physical Activities

• Intermittent hand manipulation required

• Intermittent lifting and carrying of 20 pounds

Role Specific Responsibilities

o Coordinates the SHIP program, recruits and oversees the activities of the

volunteer counselor(s).

o Maintains SHIP counselor certification and counsels Medicare

beneficiaries with problems and questions about Medicare, Medicare

supplement plans, Medicare Part D, Medicare managed care and long term

care insurance.

o Organizes and assists in filing claims for benefits and processing appeals

to Medicare and Medicare supplement insurance companies.

o Participates in SHIP marketing activities and serves as the Medicare

educator for the Second Act membership programs.

o Assist the SMP staff as needed with member services, grant process, and

special projects.
