Location: Sheffield AtkinsRéalis office, with some initial travel required to the Leeds AtkinsRéalis office.

We welcome applications from experienced Project Controls professionals who are ready to take ownership of a varied, client-facing role and continue developing their leadership and technical capability.

Your role

  • Lead and manage Project Controls activities, ensuring clear accountabilities, effective ways of working and consistently high-quality outputs.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB), ensuring alignment across scope, schedule, cost and risk.
  • Agree progress measurement methods with contractors and delivery teams, and ensure actuals and forecasts are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Assess current performance and forecast future outcomes using appropriate techniques, including earned value management (EVM).
  • Oversee the effective application of planning, cost control, risk, change control and reporting processes, supported by relevant systems and data.
  • Chair or facilitate project and programme change forums, escalating high-impact changes for approval and ensuring agreed decisions are implemented through the appropriate controls.
  • Provide specialist advice and constructive challenge to project and programme leaders, helping them resolve issues, mitigate delays and make informed decisions.
  • Promote procedural compliance, continuous improvement, lessons learned and good practice across the wider Project Controls community.
  • Where required, lead and support Project Controls team members by setting clear objectives, reviewing performance and creating an environment in which people can succeed.

About you

  • Proven experience in Project Controls or Project Management within complex infrastructure projects, such as transport, energy, defence, water or construction.
  • Strong working knowledge of integrated planning, cost, risk, change control, baseline management, reporting and EVM.
  • Experience of developing performance baselines, analysing project data and translating findings into clear, practical insight.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work effectively with clients, delivery teams, contractors and senior leaders in a matrix organisation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present performance, risks and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of using dashboards, visual reports and analytics to explain issues, support decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • A good understanding of Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA), Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) and associated risk-management techniques.
  • Resilience, sound judgement and the ability to remain effective in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • A relevant degree, professional qualification or certification in Project Management or Project Controls, or membership of a relevant professional body with Chartered status or progress towards it.
  • Experience of managing Project Controls under NEC forms of contract, including contract management or administration within rail or the wider UK construction industry.
  • NEC4 Project Manager accreditation or another relevant professional qualification.
  • Knowledge of UK government investment processes and procedures, or a formal programme-management qualification such as Managing Successful Programmes (MSP).
