Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Administer, maintain, and support PostgreSQL databases in Production, UAT, and Development environments.Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and migrate PostgreSQL databases.Configure and manage PostgreSQL Replication (Streaming, Logical, etc.).Implement and support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.Perform Backup & Recovery activities using pg_dump, pgBackRest, pg_basebackup, PITR, WAL archiving, etc.Monitor database performance and troubleshoot slow queries, locks, deadlocks, and replication issues.Perform database performance tuning using EXPLAIN, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, indexing, VACUUM, and Autovacuum tuning.Manage database security including users, roles, permissions, and access controls.Work on database upgrades, migrations, capacity planning, and health checks.Support 24x7 production incidents and problem management activities.Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and cloud teams.Mandatory Skills5+ years of PostgreSQL DBA experience.Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL Architecture.Experience in PostgreSQL Installation, Configuration, and Administration.Hands-on experience in Replication (Streaming/Logical Replication).Strong experience in Backup & Recovery (PITR, WAL, pgBackRest, pg_dump).Experience in HA/DR setup and failover activities.Strong Performance Tuning and Query Optimization skills.Linux Administration experience.Database Upgrade, Migration, and Patch Management experience.Production Support experience.Preferred SkillsAWS RDS PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL.Azure Database for PostgreSQL.Oracle DBA or MySQL DBA exposure.Patroni, repmgr, PgBouncer.Shell Scripting / Python Automation.Monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, pgBadger.

Areas of responsibility

Triaging and resolution of tickets-Provide resolution to high priority incident (P2) tickets, performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis to ensure timely closure.

SLA Monitoring-Ensure SLA compliance for assigned technology areas and ensure proactive escalation management.

Performance tuning and optimization-Analyse system performance data, coordinate findings on system behaviour, and support capacity planning initiatives to enhance overall system efficiency.

Perform system Improvements-Create mitigation measures to evaluate new tools or improvements by collaborating with technical teams.

Handling disaster recovery-Perform security assessments and recovery drills, and implement necessary controls to ensure compliance with established security standards.

Reporting and stakeholder engagement-Participate in weekly and monthly service review meetings, provide updates on performance and issues, and support stakeholder communication to ensure transparency and service alignment.

Team Management-Collaborate with team members to resolve open tickets and service requests.

Knowledge base and continuous learning Contribute to updating SOPs, knowledge articles and maintaining the knowledge repository for the purpose of future ticket resolution.
