Learner Machinist

The Role

This will be a student learner position.  The student will be paired with a tenured machine tool operator to be trained in the operation of machine tools such as boring mills and lathes.

Requirements

Below is a list of areas and tasks that the student will be trained in.

• Safety protocol and culture while being in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Drawing interpretation.
• Loading of material into the machine with a crane positions & clamp.
• Alignment of workpiece and spindle manually.
• Setting readout dials to position, inserting tool, and cycle activation.
• Changing of tooling.
• Checking of first piece.
• Mill operation
• Selection of proper speed and setup.
• Unloading of finished pieces.
• Reporting method of any errors, defective material, or faulty equipment.
• Grinding of tools if required.
• Machine Lubrication.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly area.

Education and Experience

•  Currently enrolled in vocational education.
