What You'll Build As an Expert Platform Engineer, you will be a key contributor to the Edge Integration Cell (EIC), a strategic runtime within SAP Integration Suite. EIC extends enterprise integration capabilities to edge, sovereign, private, and on-premises environments through a secure, lightweight, and highly efficient architecture. EIC operates in environments where connectivity to cloud services is limited, intermittent, or unavailable for extended periods. Engineers on this team build platform capabilities that must function reliably under these constraints spanning security, lifecycle management, operability, and resilient message processing. You will help shape the future of enterprise integration by designing and building secure, scalable, and resilient platform capabilities.   In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and evolve scalable, secure, highly available, and resilient capabilities for the Edge Integration Cell, primarily using Java while applying Go and other suitable technologies where appropriate.
• Build platform capabilities that function reliably without continuous cloud connectivity.
• Apply AI-assisted engineering and intelligent automation as daily practices to accelerate delivery and improve software quality.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical challenges across distributed systems, Kubernetes-based platforms, and integration runtimes,  particularly in environments where remote access and cloud-managed tooling are unavailable.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, UX, architects, and engineering teams within an Empowered Product Team (EPT) to deliver customer-centric outcomes.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into robust architecture, technical designs, and production-ready solutions.
• Identify and reduce architectural dependencies on other SAP Integration Suite components to enable an independent delivery cadence.
• Shape the platform's technical direction by contributing to architecture decisions, design reviews, technology strategy, and long-term platform evolution.
• Lead technical initiatives from concept through delivery, balancing innovation, customer needs, operational excellence, and business objectives.
• Act as a technical mentor and trusted advisor, guiding engineers across teams and fostering knowledge sharing.

  What You Bring You are a recognized technical expert with deep expertise in platform architecture, cloud technologies, software engineering, and large-scale distributed systems. You have a proven track record of designing and delivering scalable, secure, resilient, and highly available platforms, supported by strong capabilities in observability, automation, lifecycle management, and platform operability. Beyond technical excellence, you help shape architectural strategy, influence key technology decisions, and lead complex cross-functional initiatives. You can translate a long-term platform vision into practical solutions and ensure operational excellence at scale, including in environments with constrained resources and limited or no external connectivity. You thrive in collaborative teams and embrace continuous learning. You combine architectural thinking with a builder mentality - you shape technical direction and write the code to realize it.   Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive experience in software or platform engineering, cloud technologies, and distributed systems, with a proven track record of delivering complex solutions at scale.
• Strong software development experience with Java as a primary programming language. Experience with Go is an advantage. Ability and willingness to work with different programming languages as required.
• Hands-on experience building and operating platform capabilities across cloud-managed, edge, or on-premises environments, using containerization and orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, including non-managed or customer-operated clusters.
• Practical use of AI-assisted engineering tools and AI-powered developer workflows to improve delivery speed and code quality.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, API design, concurrency, performance, testing, and maintainable software development practices.
• Experience with deployment automation, observability, operational tooling, and platform lifecycle management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with the ability to collaborate, communicate, and influence technical decisions across agile and globally distributed teams. Willingness to present and defend technical concepts, challenge assumptions, and speak up in architectural and design discussions.
• An ownership-driven mindset with a commitment to quality, operational excellence, and delivering resilient systems under time pressure.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
