ERP Platform Architect
Company Description
QAD is a leading provider of ERP solutions purpose-built for manufacturing industries — automotive, life sciences, food & beverage, high tech, and industrial. Serving thousands of global manufacturers, QAD's Adaptive Manufacturing Cloud helps companies operate with greater precision, agility, and intelligence.
Enterprise software is entering a third era. The first gave manufacturers a System of Record — ERP that answered 'what do we have and what did we commit to?' The second gave them Data Infrastructure — the ability to move, analyse, and query that data at scale. The third era is domain-specific intelligence: AI agents that can act autonomously on manufacturing data, but only if that data has been given the context, relationships, and governed rules that allow an agent to reason correctly.
Job Description
The ERP Platform Architect owns the architecture of the foundation underneath Adaptive ERP: the frameworks, shared services, data layer, and runtime that every functional area builds on. This architect is the technical partner to the Director, ERP Platform: one engineering head paired with one architect.
Open: final scope and level to be confirmed.
Responsibilities
Develop the platform architecture and technical roadmap with the Director, ERP Platform and the Lead Architect.
Define clear contracts and standards for shared platform services: application interfaces, integrations, identity, data access, and extensibility.
Assess legacy dependencies and technical debt, and design incremental modernization paths that preserve compatibility for customers.
Set requirements for performance, security, resilience, observability, and testability.
Review designs and critical implementation choices, using prototypes to resolve hard platform risks.
Coach engineers and provide technical input into development plans and promotion assessments.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
Senior architecture and hands-on engineering experience on a complex enterprise software platform.
Deep knowledge of frameworks, data layers, APIs, integration patterns, extensibility, and multi-environment deployment.
A record of modernizing established software incrementally, balancing long-term architecture with delivery.
Influence across engineering teams, turning architectural decisions into implemented outcomes.
Preferred:
Enterprise ERP or manufacturing software experience.
Experience with Progress/OpenEdge environments and Java services.
AI-assisted modernization or development.
What success looks like
One coherent target architecture that every workstream builds toward, cross-team technical decisions made quickly, and visible progress in modernizing the product.
The benchmark is a chief-architect-calibre leader early in that arc: broad, credible with executives, and able to drive change rather than only advise on it.
