Environmental Field Inspectors (Field Based)

ERM is hiring Field-Based Inspectors to perform residential water service line investigations and inspections in support of a utility service line inventory program. Inspectors will work in teams of two to determine water service line materials and collect data needed to support regulatory compliance, asset management, and public health initiatives. Work will occur in properties in Danville, IL.

The role of an Inspector working within this program requires detailed inspections of customer-side water service lines to identify the service line material. This is a part-time (20+ hours/weekly), limited-term role for the duration of 12 months, renewable.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducting visual inspections to determine water service line material.
  • Serving as a point of contact for ERM during interactions with homeowners, tenants, property managers, contractors, clients, and other project team members.
  • Educating customers on the purpose of the service line inventory program and answering basic program-related questions.
  • Capturing clear photographic documentation and accurately recording inspection findings using mobile data collection applications and handheld devices.
  • Completing electronic inspection reports and maintaining accurate, timely records of inspection activities.
  • Reviewing daily schedules, route assignments, and project documentation to maximize productivity and data quality.
  • Identifying and communicating field issues, access challenges, safety concerns, customer complaints, or unusual site conditions for project management.
  • Participating in project meetings, safety briefings, and training sessions.
  • Maintaining project equipment, field supplies, and company vehicles, if any, in accordance with project requirements.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned in support of the program.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • A basic understanding of building construction and the ability to locate a water meter, service line, and shutoff valve is preferred but not required. Necessary training will be provided.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to confidently engage and build rapport with homeowners, tenants, & property managers.
  • Ability to professionally explain program objectives, answer questions, address concerns, and represent ERM positively during field interactions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient technical skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications, digital cameras, smartphones, tablets, and handheld data collection devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document field observations and inspection results.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Must maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be able to comply with ERM health and safety procedures and requirements.

Pay Transparency: 

For the Environmental Field Inspectors position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $58,240 – $72,800, $28.00/hr - $35.00/hr USD, limited-term, non-exempt.  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above.  This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/Flexforce employees are NOT bonus eligible).
