About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Execution, the Senior Project Execution Engineer will lead the delivery of medium-to-large CAPEX projects supporting Barry Callebaut’s Specialties & Chocolate manufacturing operations. Based in Dunmore, PA, this role is responsible for managing projects from concept and feasibility through engineering, construction, commissioning, and handover, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and timely execution.
As a key contributor to the Dunmore Masterplan and strategic growth initiatives, the role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, EHS, Procurement, and Global Engineering teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions that drive operational excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive assigned CAPEX projects (ranging from $200K to $10M+ USD) from concept through commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and meeting performance KPIs.
- Direct external engineering firms (EPC/EPCM), equipment vendors, and construction contractors. Exercise technical oversight during installation, piping, electrical/automation integration, and civil works.
- Apply BC’s Front-End Loading (FEL) methodology and Initiative Management (IM) frameworks to build robust scope definitions, cost estimates, risk registers, and execution schedules.
- Enforce a zero-accident culture (Zero TRIR) across all job sites. Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, local building codes, and BC Process/People Safety standards.
- Track package budgets, review contractor pay applications, manage change orders, and prevent scope creep using SAP and MS Project.
- Guarantee all processing and packaging equipment layouts comply with local FDA/USDA regulations and Barry Callebaut global hygienic design and food safety benchmarks.
- Partner with Dunmore Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and Quality to ensure smooth operational integration, minimal plant downtime during tie-ins, and successful Vertical Start-Up (VSU).
- Collaborate with Technical Sourcing to prepare RFQ packages, evaluate technical bids, conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and manage vendor performance.
- Primary Location: Dunmore, Pennsylvania, USA. Main focus on the Dunmore plant, with occasional technical support or FAT travel to vendor shops and secondary NAM Sweets & Specialty facilities.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering). Master’s degree or PMP® certification is considered a strong asset.
- 5+ years of progressive project engineering experience in the CPG, food/beverage processing, or specialty chemical industries.
- Proven background in managing multidisciplinary industrial projects, equipment installations, process piping, automation, and utility tie-ins.
- Full business and technical fluency in English is required. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Project, AutoCAD, SAP (CAPEX/PM modules), and standard engineering design tools. Solid understanding of TPM Early Management / Vertical Start-Up principles.
- Multidisciplinary Engineering: Strong technical foundation across mechanical process lines, hygienic liquid/mass handling, utilities (steam, chilled water, compressed air), and industrial automation (PLC/SCADA).
- Demonstrated success in applying stage-gate project governance, contractor management, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of US industrial safety standards (OSHA) and food manufacturing regulatory frameworks (FDA, USDA, GMP).
- High level of autonomy; capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced plant expansion environment, resolving cross-functional bottlenecks and maintaining positive working relationships with key project stakeholders.
- Ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to plant operations, contractors, and regional engineering management.
