Electrical Test Development Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Test Development Engineer to lead the design, development, validation, and deployment of automated functional test systems for electronic products. This role is responsible for test architecture, electrical hardware design, instrumentation integration, automation software development, and manufacturing deployment. The ideal candidate will partner closely with customers, design engineering, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver scalable, reliable production test solutions.
This position will be onsite in Austin, TX
What a typical day looks like:
- Develop test strategies, architectures, and test plans for new products.
- Design electrical test hardware, interface boards, signal conditioning circuits, and fixtures.
- Select and integrate instrumentation including oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, signal generators, RF equipment, environmental chambers, and leak test systems.
- Develop automated test software using TestStand, LabVIEW, Python, C/C#, and Linux scripting.
- Implement communication protocols such as Ethernet, CAN, USB, SPI, I²C, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.
- Integrate MES, traceability, and manufacturing data collection requirements.
- Support tester bring-up, debugging, validation, deployment, and production ramp activities.
- Lead DFT reviews, customer design reviews, and provide technical leadership for test development projects.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
- 5+ years developing automated functional test systems for electronic products.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience leading test development projects from concept through production launch.
- Strong analog, digital, mixed-signal, and power electronics knowledge.
- Experience designing test hardware, interface circuits, fixtures, and custom PCBs.
- Proficiency with NI TestStand and at least one programming language such as Python, C, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with ATE, instrumentation, and measurement systems.
- Ability to interpret schematics, technical requirements, and communication protocols.
- Strong cross-functional communication skills and ability to travel up to 20%.
Preferred Qualifications
- NI LabVIEW experience.
- Manufacturing test data collection and MES integration.
- Experience with environmental chambers, leak testing, and high-volume manufacturing.
- Design for Testability (DFT) experience.
- RF test and measurement experience.
- PCB schematic capture and layout experience (OrCAD, Allegro, or similar).
