Description of Work
This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporary employees are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is with NC DNCR - Division of Land and Water Stewardship, located at 121 West Jones Street, Raleigh NC, Wake County 27603.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $31.92 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
Details of the Position:
This temporary position will be assigned to the NC Dept of Natural and Cultural Resources - Division of Land and Water Stewardship. The selected candidate for this role will enter and manage occurrence records of rare plants, animals, and natural communities for the Natural Heritage Program. This includes:
* Reviewing records of observations for accuracy and completeness
* Mapping occurrences in a GIS-based web platform
* Entering tabular data into the Biotics database
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
* Demonstrated experience working with large data sets
* Demonstrated experience working with and reviewing data from citizen science websites such as eBird, iNaturalist, and HerpMapper
* Demonstrated experience performing quality control to identify and correct outliers or errors in biological or geographic data
* Ability to analyze, manipulate and evaluate information/data, including the use of software.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
