Design Liaison Engineering Intern
About the Team
The Design Liaison Engineering (DLE) team is part of the Gas Turbine Engineering (GTE) organization and provides design support to global supply chain partners. The team plays a critical role in ensuring technical rigor, product quality, and timely customer fulfillment.
About the Role
As a DLE Engineering Intern, you will support the design and manufacturing of gas turbine flow path hardware, including blades, vanes, heat shields, and linkage assemblies. You will help resolve hardware deviations, support supplier qualifications, contribute to design improvements, and work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to improve product quality and manufacturability.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze and help resolve non-conforming hardware using engineering tools and methods
- Support redesign efforts through engineering drawing updates
- Assist with qualification of hardware for second-source suppliers and process or design changes
- Participate in technical reviews and risk assessments at component and assembly level
- Follow established engineering standards, templates, and standard work
- Contribute to improvements in manufacturability, quality, and cost
- Collaborate across engineering and global supply chain to support hardware delivery
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field at a University in Switzerland
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals, including stress, fatigue, creep, materials, tolerancing, and design for manufacturability
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) with ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as forging, casting, machining, coatings, inspection, and fixturing
- Knowledge of gas turbine hardware or similar rotating machinery
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (e.g., Ansys) and 3D CAD (e.g., NX)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate in a cross functional global organization
- Humble, open-minded, self-motivated, and eager to learn
- Comfortable managing changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Language: English fluency required
