Consultant(DPO)

On-site India contractor

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate AWS Native Application Developer to join our growing engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, coding, and implementing cloud-native applications utilizing AWS serverless and native service architectures.
Unlike traditional cloud infrastructure or DevOps roles, your primary focus will be on writing application code, building APIs, crafting business logic, and orchestrating serverless workflows. You will work closely with our product and design teams to translate business requirements into highly scalable, secure, and resilient application code running directly on AWS native services.

What This Role Is (and Is Not)
•    This IS a Software Engineering Role: You will spend the majority of your time writing application code (Node.js, Python, or Go), designing data schemas, writing Lambda functions, and building APIs.
•    This IS NOT an Infrastructure / DevOps Role: You will not be responsible for provisioning VPCs, configuring routing tables, maintaining Kubernetes/EKS clusters, or managing firewalls. We have a dedicated Cloud Infrastructure team that handles platform-level operations. Your focus is purely on the software application layer.

Key Responsibilities

•    Application Development: Design and develop robust application backends, microservices, and event-driven architecture utilizing AWS native services.
•    Serverless Engineering: Build and maintain scalable APIs using AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and AWS AppSync (GraphQL).
•    Workflow Orchestration: Design complex business workflows and state machines using AWS Step Functions.
•    Database Integration: Write application code interacting with NoSQL databases like Amazon DynamoDB (including single-table design concepts) and relational engines like Amazon Aurora Serverless.
•    Messaging & Event-Driven Flows: Implement asynchronous communication using Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, and Amazon EventBridge.
•    Identity & Security: Integrate application-level authentication and authorization workflows utilizing Amazon Cognito and AWS IAM service roles.
•    Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Developers: Write and maintain developer-focused IaC templates using AWS CDK (Cloud Development Kit) or AWS SAM (Serverless Application Model) to deploy your application resources.
•    Performance Tuning: Optimize application performance, cold-start times, and database query patterns to ensure low-latency responses and cost-efficiency.
•    Testing & CI/CD: Write unit and integration tests for serverless components and collaborate with the DevOps team to integrate application builds into CI/CD pipelines.

Skill Requirements

Required Technical Skills & Experience
•    Programming Proficiency: Strong software development background with deep production experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Node.js/TypeScript, or Go).
•    AWS SDK Expertise: Proven experience utilizing the AWS SDK to write applications that programmatically interact with AWS services.
•    Serverless Development: Minimum of 5+ years of experience building, deploying, and debugging serverless applications using AWS Lambda.
•    Database Skills: Deep understanding of NoSQL database design principles, specifically Amazon DynamoDB (data modeling, indexes, partition keys, and query optimization).
•    API Development: Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs or GraphQL endpoints.
•    Asynchronous Design: Practical knowledge of building event-driven architectures and message queuing patterns.
•    Developer Tooling: Experience using developer tools such as AWS SAM, Serverless Framework, or AWS CDK.

Preferred Qualifications
•    AWS Certification: AWS Certified Developer – Associate or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
•    Front-End Familiarity: Basic understanding of integrating cloud backends with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).
•    Performance Monitoring: Experience with AWS X-Ray, CloudWatch Logs, or third-party monitoring tools to trace and optimize distributed transactions.

Other Requirements

Soft Skills & Working Style
•    Product-Minded Developer: Ability to think about the end-user experience and align technical application choices with product goals.
•    Collaborative: Comfortable working alongside dedicated UI/UX designers, product managers, and cloud infrastructure engineers.
•    Self-Starter: Passionate about learning new cloud design patterns and staying up to date with the latest AWS native feature releases.
