Community Lead

On-site San Francisco, United States

About the Role

This is a hands-on Community Lead role reporting directly to the General Manager at an early-stage ambient AI consumer startup. You'll own the community end-to-end, building the full funnel from new user to evangelist and creating a real feedback loop into the product roadmap. There's no pre-built playbook, and your work will have direct influence on the direction of the product.

What You'll Do

  • Build and nurture an active community across Discord, X, Reddit, and other platforms where users naturally gather.

  • Design and test concrete mechanics, such as recognition systems, referral programs, and early access tiers, that convert power users into active advocates.

  • Mobilize the community at critical moments including product launches, user research initiatives, and marketing pushes.

  • Gather rich feedback from community conversations and translate it into actionable product signal for the team.

  • Coordinate in-person events and experiences that deepen community bonds.

  • Work across time zones with R&D, hardware, and supply-chain teams to ensure community insights flow into the roadmap.

  • Make independent calls and define scope as the role evolves in an ambiguous, early-stage environment.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years building and scaling an online community for a B2C or prosumer product into a measurable driver of engagement or retention.

  • Proven ability to design and test mechanics that turn power users into advocates, not just hope it happens organically.

  • Experience mobilizing communities for specific campaigns and coordinating across Growth, Marketing, and Product teams.

  • Track record converting community feedback into actionable product insights with demonstrated impact on retention or engagement metrics.

  • Hands-on experience managing community platforms including moderation, engagement strategy, and feedback collection.

  • Comfortable making independent calls and resolving discourse in an undefined, fast-moving environment.

  • Experience working across distributed or cross-timezone teams, particularly bridging community and product development.

  • Track record coordinating in-person community events or activations.

  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese or other languages relevant to international community management is a strong plus.
