Automation Engineer

On-site Södertälje, Sweden

Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions. Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.

Role Summary

We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join our Automation team in Södertälje, working within a PRU focused on battery production and battery-related processes. The team supports and develops automation and IT solutions for critical production flows connected to batteries, contributing to Scania’s electrification journey. You will use your automation and IT expertise to continuously improve production, making it more efficient, robust, and sustainable.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain IT and improve the PLC and SCADA solutions for battery production processes.
  • Act as the link between SCADA and related technologies, such as MES, machines and networks.

  • Support investment and industrialisation projects within the PRU.

  • Provide support for production-critical systems(EBBA, etc.) with high availability requirements.
  • Perform system maintenance, upgrades and lifecycle management of local automation systems.

  • Support and collaborate closely with production, maintenance and engineering users.

  • Work closely with business and architects to transform the needs of the business into clear requirements for effective improvement.

  • Prioritise  and manage backlogs to deliver value-added functionality for the user.

Your Profile

To succeed in this role at Scania, you bring a strong foundation in automation engineering (Automation, Electrical, or similar) and 3–6 years of experience in industrial environments. You have hands-on expertise with PLC and SCADA systems—ideally Siemens, including Ignition and SIMATIC WinCC—and a genuine passion for automation in complex production settings.

You are comfortable troubleshooting technical issues, identifying root causes, and contributing to long-term improvements while understanding the interaction between systems, processes, production, and IT. Proactive and solution-oriented, you combine a “can-do” mindset with persistence and adaptability when driving change.

You communicate clearly and influence stakeholders across levels, collaborate effectively, and take ownership of your work. While being a team player, you can also independently drive tasks forward. Experience in project management, product ownership, business development, or agile/digitalization initiatives is a plus.

This Is Us

Our Södertälje-based team includes automation engineers, developers, architects, test managers, and project leads working closely with battery production. We use agile methods and work with platforms such as TIA Portal (PLC) and Ignition (HMI); SQL knowledge is a plus.

Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required, while Swedish is an advantage. You are expected to live in the area or be willing to commute.

Scania Offers

We offer a dynamic and engaging workplace where collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement are part of everyday life. You will be part of a strong team environment that encourages knowledge sharing and close cooperation across functions.

With a structured development plan and a wide range of training opportunities, Scania supports your professional growth both locally and internationally.

Benefits include access to our health center in Gröndal or a wellness allowance, result bonus, flexible working hours, and company car leasing. Scania also arranges events for employees and their families, and for those living in Stockholm, convenient commuting is supported through direct Scania Job express buses to Södertälje.
