□ About PSA’s Authentication Service
PSA’s authentication service checks that trading cards sold on resale apps and online auction sites are authentic before they reach the buyer. Items travel from the seller to PSA’s authentication center and then to the buyer. At the center, we check that the holder and label are genuine, that the certification number matches PSA’s records, and that the item matches the listing before shipping it. According to PSA’s fraud report (May 2026), counterfeiting is increasing across all types of trading cards. The more valuable the card, the more important it is that buyers and sellers can trade with confidence.
□ Mission of This Position
- “Support a trading card market where people can buy and sell with confidence, from the authentication floor.”
□ Position Overview
- As the on-site lead of the authentication center, you will lead a team of authenticators and receiving and shipping staff. You will be responsible for daily operations, authentication quality, turnaround (the number of days from arrival to shipment), and center security. (Remote work is not available.)
- You will be part of the global authentication team and report to its leader. You will run the center according to globally standardized authentication standards and work procedures. Any adjustments for Japan are agreed with the global team.
- Partner contracts and the business P&L are handled by PSA Japan’s business team. You will work closely with this team every day and take part in operational coordination with partners, such as turnaround, volume forecasts, and exception handling.
- You will communicate mainly in Japanese with the business team in Japan and in English with the global team. Online meetings and Slack are part of everyday work.
- This role is not dedicated to a single partner. As partners are added, you may run operations for several partners or lead the launch of new ones.
□ Background for This Opening
- High-value trading card sales are growing on resale apps. At the same time, concerns about counterfeits, item switching, and fraudulent returns discourage people from listing and buying.
- As the company that graded these cards, PSA knows how its holders are made and holds the records of every certification number, which allows it to authenticate PSA cards with the greatest certainty. Our mission is for PSA itself to authenticate cards at the point of sale and create an environment where PSA cards can be bought and sold with confidence.
- We are looking for a leader who will embed globally defined standards in Japan’s operation, develop the team, and lead the center from launch to stable operation.
□ What Makes This Position Interesting
- You can shape the authentication center yourself, starting from setting up the space and building the team. As part of the launch, you will design the procedures, staffing, and the systems that maintain quality.
- As a member of the global team, you will learn directly from the authentication standards and know-how PSA has built up. You will also be in a position to feed what you learn in Japan back into operations at PSA locations around the world.
- The procedures and team structure you build with the first partner will become the foundation as we add more partners.
□ Expectations for the First Six Months
- The months before launch: Work with the global team to adapt work procedures for Japan, prepare the center layout and security, hire and train team members, test systems, and run a rehearsal before go-live.
- After launch: Build an operation that consistently meets turnaround and authentication quality standards. Track volume, on-time rate, items processed per person, and the number of exceptions each week, and report them to the global team and the business team.
- Use results from the launch period to validate planning assumptions, such as items processed per authenticator, and reflect them in the staffing plan for the next stage.
- In evaluation, we look at on-time rate, quality check results, and prevention of incidents such as loss or damage, as well as whether you have left an operating model (procedures, training, metrics, staffing plans) that can be reused as partners are added.
□ What We’re Looking For
Below are the qualifications we particularly value for this position. You do not need to meet all of them. If your experience or interests overlap with any of these, we encourage you to apply.
■ Qualities We Particularly Value
- Ability to design ways of working that sacrifice neither accuracy nor speed
- Following defined procedures yourself and making sure the team does too, while noticing room for improvement and proposing changes with evidence
- Understanding the situation on the floor through numbers and using them in daily decisions
- Respecting global standards while constructively proposing approaches that suit operations in Japan
- Acting with integrity in a role entrusted with high-value items and customers’ trust
■ Skills and Experience Required
- Hands-on experience in operations such as logistics, warehousing, inspection, manufacturing, or customer service (about 3+ years)
- Experience leading a frontline team, including scheduling, training, and performance reviews (about 2+ years)
- Experience setting volume and turnaround targets and running an operation to meet them
- Experience coordinating with external partners as the operational point of contact
■ Language and Communication
- Japanese: Ability to communicate accurately with team members and internal and external stakeholders, and to explain procedures clearly to frontline staff, including the reasons behind them
- English: Ability to read and write work procedures and reports, and to take part in online meetings with the global team
■ IT and AI Utilization
- Ability to compile results in spreadsheets or similar tools and use them to identify issues and report
- Ability to use AI and digital tools to translate and organize work procedures and to prepare training and reporting materials efficiently
■ Nice to Have
- Knowledge of trading cards or grading
- Experience in PSA grading operations
- Experience in operations that handle high-value items, such as jewelry, watches, or luxury goods
- Experience building quality control or inspection processes
- Experience managing site security or access control
- Experience launching a new site or operation
□ Working Conditions
- Location: PSA’s authentication center in Tokyo (on-site work; the exact location will be shared at interview)
- Working days: Weekdays (Monday–Friday). Some flexibility may be needed around launch and during busy periods.
- Employment type: Full-time
- Travel: Travel to overseas locations may be required for training and coordination.
- Security: Because the center handles high-value items, you will follow center rules, including restrictions on personal belongings and camera monitoring.
