ANE QA Engineer
Job Description
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to develop multi-module test cases and set up test environments while preparing test evidence and validating system functionality.
͏
ANE QA - Role Summary - Device-Side Software QA Engineer with strong experience in validating lower-level software across mobile and embedded device stacks. The role focuses on system software below the application layer, including operating system services, frameworks, drivers, firmware interfaces, hardware abstraction layers, and platform components. The engineer will perform functional and reliability testing, isolate failures through logs and traces, and work closely with development teams to resolve complex device-side issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute test scenarios for device-side system software, platform services, drivers, firmware interactions, and hardware-software interfaces.
- Validate functionality, stability, reliability, performance, power, boot, recovery, upgrade, and fault-handling behavior across device builds.
- Reproduce, isolate, and troubleshoot failures that span operating system, framework, middleware, driver, firmware, and hardware layers.
- Collect and analyze device logs, crash dumps, stack traces, kernel logs, system traces, and performance data to identify failure patterns and probable root causes.
- Perform defect triage, document clear reproduction steps and technical evidence, and collaborate with software, firmware, hardware, and automation teams through closure.
- Support new device bring-up, software integration, regression testing, release qualification, and production issue investigation. (Nice 2 Have)
- Develop or enhance scripts and utilities for test execution, log collection, failure parsing, and repetitive validation activities.
- Improve test coverage by identifying boundary conditions, negative scenarios, subsystem dependencies, and field-like failure conditions.
Must-Have Skills
- Hands-on device-side or embedded software testing experience below the application layer.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, defect isolation, and root cause analysis skills.
- Proficiency in log analysis, crash analysis, stack trace interpretation, and system-level failure investigation.
- Knowledge of operating system concepts, processes, threads, memory, inter-process communication, file systems, boot flows, and system services.
- Experience validating one or more lower-layer components such as frameworks, middleware, HAL, device drivers, firmware interfaces, kernel modules, connectivity, multimedia, power, sensors, or security subsystems.
- Ability to create test cases from technical requirements, architecture specifications, interface definitions, and defect history.
- Experience with defect tracking, test management, source control, and engineering collaboration tools.
- Working knowledge of scripting—preferably Python, Shell, or Bash—for diagnostics and test automation.
