Analyst Programmer
Covetrus is a global animal-health technology and services leader dedicated to empowering veterinary practice partners to drive improved health and financial outcomes. We bring together products, services, and technology into a single platform that connects our customers to the solutions and insights they need to work best. Our passion for the well-being of animals and those who care for them drives us to advance the world of veterinary medicine.
The Role
We are seeking interest for a Software Developer (internally referred to as ‘Analyst/Programmer’) to join the Development team, reporting to the Development Team Lead. You will work on the systems that support our business across Australia and New Zealand: our customer-facing platforms, core business systems, and the integrations that connect them with finance, warehousing, and partner platforms. We use AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of how we work and you will use them well to write and change code efficiently, so that more of your time goes into the parts that make a change succeed: clear requirements, sound design, thorough testing, and smooth delivery.
Your responsibilities will include –
- Own small to medium projects and change requests end to end, from requirements through to release and handover (larger initiatives are run with a designated Project Manager).
- Work with business stakeholders to understand processes and problems, clarify requirements, and agree on scope and acceptance criteria before build begins.
- Design practical, maintainable solutions, and raise alternatives where there’s a simpler or better way to meet the need.
- Build and modify features, integrations, and automations across our stack, using AI-assisted tools to work efficiently.
- Develop and maintain integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, choosing the most appropriate technology for each one.
- Test your own work properly, coordinate UAT with stakeholders, and manage issues through to sign-off.
- Plan and carry out releases and produce the documentation and handover the team needs to support what you’ve built.
- Contribute to code reviews, team practices, and how we use AI tools as a team.
About You
Ideally you will display –
- Commercial software development experience at a mid to senior level combined with a solid understanding of application design, relational databases and SQL, and system integration (APIs, file-based and message-based interfaces).
- Practical, day-to-day experience with AI-assisted development tools, and the judgement to review, test, and own the code they help produce.
- Confidence working directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements and manage expectations and the ability to manage your own work.
- A disciplined approach to testing, UAT, and release, and an understanding that delivery isn’t done until it’s working in production and supported.
- Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and languages. Parts of our environment use less common platforms, and we don’t expect prior experience with them.
Desirable:
- C# / .NET experience.
- Experience with both Windows and Linux server environments.
- Experience working with ERP, warehouse, finance, or e-commerce systems.
